Terms of Use

Gloss helps you define personal meanings of words and, optionally, compare them with someone you invite. It may surface meaning gaps, Readings, and Talk prompts. It is a meaning and reflection tool — not therapy, counseling, medical care, diagnosis, crisis intervention, or legal advice.

Do not rely on Gloss for mental-health emergencies or clinical decisions. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself or others, contact local emergency services or a crisis hotline immediately (in the US: call or text 988). Gloss does not monitor for crisis and does not notify emergency services.

You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live, if higher) to create a paid account or use Gloss in a way that involves sharing intimate relationship content with a partner. If you are 13–17, use Gloss only with a parent or guardian’s permission, and do not submit personal information we ask adults not to collect from children. Gloss is not directed to children under 13.

• You retain ownership of the definitions and notes you write.
• You grant us a limited license to host and process content you send to our servers solely to operate features you use (for example live invites and billing entitlements).
• You are responsible for what you share with a partner, including invite links. Anyone with a live or packed pass link may see the content it carries.
• Local-only data lives on your device. Export backups if you want a copy; we cannot restore browser data we never received.

Some features work without an account. Paid plans (such as Pro or Couples) and cross-device plan unlocks may require Firebase Auth and payment through Stripe. You agree to provide accurate billing information to Stripe and to keep account credentials confidential. Plan features and limits may change; we will describe current plans on the Pricing page.

Paid subscriptions are billed by Stripe according to the plan you choose. Taxes may apply. You can manage or cancel through the Stripe customer portal linked from Pricing when signed in. Except where required by law, fees are non-refundable once a billing period has started. Chargebacks or payment disputes may result in suspension of paid features.

You agree not to:

• Use Gloss to harass, stalk, coerce, or abuse another person
• Share someone else’s intimate content through Gloss without their clear permission
• Attempt to break into accounts, scrape private invites, overload our systems, or reverse-engineer non-public APIs for abuse
• Use Gloss in violation of applicable law or to provide regulated clinical services as if Gloss were a licensed clinician
• Misrepresent affiliation with Aether Mind Studios

We may suspend or terminate access for violations, fraud, or risk to others.

Gloss relies on third parties including Stripe and Google Firebase. Their terms and privacy policies apply to their services. We are not responsible for outages or actions of those providers beyond our reasonable control.

Gloss is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of Readings or Talk output, and uninterrupted or error-free operation. Insights and prompts are generative or heuristic reflections on the words you enter — not professional advice.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Aether Mind Studios and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, or relationship outcomes arising from your use of Gloss. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed the greater of (a) amounts you paid us for Gloss in the twelve months before the claim or (b) fifty US dollars ($50), except where liability cannot be limited by law.

You agree to defend and indemnify Aether Mind Studios against claims arising from your content, your invite links, your misuse of Gloss, or your violation of these Terms, except to the extent caused by our willful misconduct.

We may update Gloss and these Terms. Continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. The “Last updated” date will change when we revise this page.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protections in your place of residence apply. You and Aether Mind Studios agree to attempt to resolve disputes informally first by emailing legal@glosswith.me. Where a court proceeding is required, courts with jurisdiction over Aether Mind Studios’ principal place of business will hear the dispute, unless applicable law gives you a non-waivable right to sue elsewhere.
