Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 31, 2026
Gloss is a product of Aether Mind Studios. This policy explains what we collect, what stays on your device, and what we do with cloud data when you use paid plans, accounts, or live invites.
The short version
- Your lexicon, Talk chats, Readings inputs, Bridge phrases, and “Know me” notes live in this browser (IndexedDB). We do not sync that full dictionary to our servers.
- We do not sell your definitions. We do not run ads against your content.
- Cloud storage is limited to account/plan entitlements and, when you choose, live Partner Pass invites (shared word content + names).
- Payments are handled by Stripe. Authentication uses Firebase Auth.
Who we are
Gloss (“we,” “us”) is operated by Aether Mind Studios. The service is available at glosswith.me and related hosting URLs. Privacy questions: privacy@glosswith.me.
Information that stays on your device
By default, Gloss is local-first. The following typically remain in your browser’s storage (IndexedDB / local or session storage) and are not uploaded as a full backup to Aether Mind Studios:
- Words, definitions (strata), tags, and revision history
- Display name, partner name, intention, and flashpoint you set
- Compare / collision history saved on-device
- Talk / Mirror session transcripts and local Talk memory
- Bridge phrases, check-in outcomes, and “Know me” / self-context notes (including life tags and stories about people)
- Export files you download; import files you choose to load
Clearing site data, switching browsers or devices, or losing the device can erase this information unless you exported it. We cannot recover local-only data from our servers.
Information we process in the cloud
Depending on how you use Gloss, we may process:
- Account: a Firebase Auth user ID (anonymous by default). If you create an email/password account for plan sync, we store that email with your auth provider.
- Plan & billing: subscription plan, status, Stripe customer / subscription IDs, and the email Stripe associates with payment — used to unlock Pro or Couples features across devices when signed in.
- Live Partner Pass invites: when you create a live invite, we store invite metadata such as creator ID, display names, chosen lemmas, optional shared definition snippets, and your partner’s return definitions until the invite expires (about 14 days) or is otherwise removed.
- Packed / link-based passes: some invite flows encode content in the link or hash you share. That content is carried by the link itself; treat the URL like a secret.
How we use information
- To provide the Gloss product you ask for
- To verify purchases and maintain entitlements
- To operate live invites between you and a partner you invite
- To secure the service and prevent abuse
- To respond to support requests you send us (including billing receipts you share)
We do not use your definitions to train public AI models, and we do not sell personal information.
Sharing and processors
We share data only as needed to run Gloss:
- Stripe — payment processing. Their privacy policy governs card and billing details you enter on Stripe’s pages.
- Google Firebase (Auth, Firestore, Hosting, Cloud Functions) — authentication, entitlements, live invites, and site hosting.
- Infrastructure such as CDN / DNS providers that deliver the website.
- Your partner — only content you deliberately share via Invite / Compare / a live pass.
- Legal authorities when required by law, or to protect rights and safety.
Fonts may be loaded via Google Fonts infrastructure bundled with the app build. We do not currently run a first-party analytics product against your lexicon content.
Cookies and similar technologies
Gloss uses browser storage for the local lexicon and session needs. Firebase Auth and Stripe may set their own cookies or local storage on their domains when you sign in or pay. We do not use advertising cookies.
Retention
- Local data: until you delete it, clear site data, or uninstall / change browsers.
- Live invites: designed to expire after about 14 days.
- Entitlements and account records: while your account or paid plan remains active, and for a reasonable period afterward for billing, fraud prevention, and legal compliance.
Your choices
- Export your lexicon from the product anytime.
- Clear browser site data to remove local Gloss storage on that device.
- Manage or cancel a subscription through the Stripe customer portal (from Pricing when signed in).
- Stop using live invites; avoid putting sensitive definitions in an invite you would not want a link-holder to see.
- Email privacy@glosswith.me to request deletion of account / entitlement records we control (local-only data must be cleared on your device).
Children
Gloss is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child provided personal information, contact us and we will delete cloud records we control.
Security
We use industry-standard providers and access controls for cloud functions and databases. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure. Protect device access, treat invite links as confidential, and export backups for data you care about.
International users
Servers and processors may be located in the United States or other countries. If you use Gloss from elsewhere, you understand that information may be processed in countries with different data protection laws than your own.
Changes
We may update this policy. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice in the product or on the site when appropriate.
